Building Schools for the Future
What is BSF?
Building Schools for the Future (BSF) represents a new approach to capital investment. It is bringing together significant investment (£45billion) in buildings and in ICT over the coming years to support the Government's educational reform agenda. The aim is to rebuild or renew every secondary school in England over a 10-15 year period to create world-class, 21 st century school environments which will inspire learning for decades to come and provide exceptional assets for the whole of the community.
ICT in BSF
ICT is to play a key role in transforming education as part of the BSF programme. At circa 10% of the overall programme funding ICT services in secondary schools are set to receive a £4.5billion investment. BSF ICT services typically include Schools LAN infrastructure including roaming Wireless, IP Telephony, Security and Authentication, Learning Platform, content and VLE and mobile learning devices. Key issues are: Integration with Buildings design
- Managed Service provision providing anywhere, anytime learning access for whole educational estate
- Use of and integration with Legacy ICT
- Phased service delivery
- Supply chain and stakeholder management
- Supporting the educational vision and governments education reform agenda
- Delivering Educational outcomes
- Demonstrating best value and continually improving the ICT service quality and efficiency
